UPDATE: protest going ahead despite rain. bring umbrellas, raincoats, etc.
march route: down to Bourke St, Elizabeth, Latrobe, return to State Library
Out of control emergency bushfires are sweeping across the state – destroying thousands of hectares, houses, and lives.
These fires, heatwaves, and droughts are not just unprecedented – they’re the direct result of decades of climate destruction at the hands of fossil fuel loving politicians.
We demand the government
– Pay all firefighters and give the force full funding.
– Provide genuine relief and aid for affected communities
– Begin the immediate rapid transition away from fossil fuels.
– Sack Scomo!
We also acknowledge that our protest is taking place on the stolen land of the Kulin Nations and we pay our respects to their elders past, present, and emerging. We stand in solidarity with indigenous people in their fight against the ongoing genocide, theft and mismanagement of land, and fight for climate justice.
Join Uni Students for Climate Justice to speak out in the city to stand in solidarity with affected communities but to also place the blame on the people that deserve it – Scott Morrison, Daniel Andrews, and the rest of the politicians!
